“Lessons from Corinth (from the river of life newsletter, spring, 1997)
As I promised in the last newsletter, here is the continued study in lessons we can learn from the Corinthian believers. I often read the end of a book before I start with the beginning just to see how it’s going to turn out [...]

“Wait and listen, every who is thirsty! Come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Yes, come, buy [priceless, spiritual] wine and milk without money and without price [simply for the self-surrender that accepts the blessing].” (Isaiah 55:1 AMP)
Isn’t this the oddest advertisement? We know the scriptures were written [...]
emergent or emergency: conservative politics, kings and priests, and other extra-biblical stuff the emerging church has trouble with.

Like I’ve mentioned before I’m not writing to agree or disagree with what is being referred to as the emerging church. I’m reading that the EC is getting a lot of criticism that they resent and say they don’t think people understand them, because we don’t take the time to get to know them. And [...]

emergent or emergency: views poll

Please help me with the following poll:
1. Which is worse: being in sin or judging someone as being in sin?
2. Is entertainment/art that glorifies sin or sinful lifestyles sinful to support?
3. If you were in or unknowingly getting dangerously close to falling into sin, what would you want a friend to do:
a. Let you continue [...]
emergent or emergency: consider the source before judging or joining

Before jumping on anyone’s band wagon, I’ve learned I must consider the source, the root as well as the fruit. Trying to be thoughtful, my constant question is what are they saying and why?
Matthew 7:16-20 “You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? [...]

“Now that I have seen, I am responsible. Faith without works is dead”
Knowing my love for worship my daughter Kate gave me a CD of Brooke Fraser that I’ve already played dozens of times but this morning I was especially drawn to the song “Albertine” and I found her video about [...]

I don’t know about you but I can’t imagine worship without instruments, all kinds of instruments. I know there are denominations that conduct worship services without music accompaniment even today (like the Primitive Baptists, Church of Christ and the Amish, sorry don’t mean to offend) but I’d find it hard to hang in with acapella [...]
what’s emergent and what’s an emergency

First, my disclaimer: I am not an expert on the emerging church and the more I hear I’m not sure there can be because of the many views involved. I have read the writers of the postmodern secular and Christian movement and articles by or about the leaders and understand the main points. Here’s the [...]
